The citizens of Oldenburg who are active in the fields of business, education and culture have maintained good relationships with their counterparts in China for many years. In May of 2007, Mayor Gerd Schwandner founded the China Initiative of the City of Oldenburg to further these existing contacty to the dynamically growing economic giant China and to bring the Middle Kingdom closer to the citizens of Oldenburg.

It serves as a basis for all China-related activities in Oldenburg and is open to companies in Oldenburg as well as its citizens who are already in contact with China or would like to establish contacts.
